“Prose is architecture, not interior decoration.” -Hemingway
What I feel that Hemingway is trying to say with this quote, is the the prose is the structure. It is not everything that you put within the structure. What you put in the structure is your setting, character, and situations that bring the building its own personal touch of character. By using prose as the bare bones, an author requires much more work to completely finish the building and make it his or her own.
